Fabi is an assistant or, as we like to call it, a buddy for SUPSI students to enhance their learning inside the FabLab. As it’s name suggests -Fab for FabLab, i for information- this voice controlled assistant can answer any question its user might have in regards of the space. For each area of the lab, a station activates Fabi and downloads the correct dataset. When a question is asked, it will provide the student with an efficient vocal reply and will always direct the student to more in-depth information through a QR code.

Fabi has 4 levels of communication with its users. The first feedback starts when it is correctly placed on a station. A NeoPixel ring placed at the bottom will light up and an animation will inform the user the data is being downloaded, finishing with a confirmation sound that Fabi is ready to answer questions. When a question is asked, an other NeoPixel ring placed at the top will inform the user it’s being listen too, and will animation while Fabi process the question. Simultaneously as the vocal answer is given, the display will generate a QR code to more in-depth informations regarding the question. Lastly, if the user ask for a location of a tool, the led lights of the station of that object will light up additionally to the vocal feedback to guide the user.
